Biography

In May 2010 had his very successful debut in Italy with the Orchestra of Arena di Verona
The season 2009-2010 marks Dian Tchobanov´s sixth season as Resident Conductor of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra (Bulgaria).
After his successful debut in season in 2008-2009 he is a permanent guest conductor in Stateopera Zagreb
In February on 2007, the Bulgarian-born conductor, living now in Austria, was appointed as Music Director of the State Opera Stara Zagora.
For five seasons he is now Resident Conductor of Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra (Vienna).
Mr. Tchobanov has recently appeared as permanent guest conductor with such orchestras as the Budapest Concert Orchestra, Dohnany Orchestra Budapest, Croatian Chamber Orchestra (Zagreb) and Macedonia Philharmonic (Skopje).
As an “excellent and brilliant” (from “Sofia Word”) conductor who “kept the audience out of breath” (from “Seven Days”, Zagreb), high praise has followed Dian Tchobanov since his conducting debut in 2001 with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. In the same year he has served as Music Director of “Oper Oder-Spree” Festival (Germany) which has followed by the Assistance of “Klangbogen” Vienna in 2002.
Mr. Tchobanov also appeared as conductor with great orchestras like Budapest Festival Orchestra (where he was Assistant of Ivan Fischer), Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2006 he is faculty for orchestral conducting at the Varna International Conducting Workshops in collaboration with Prof. Wyatt (University of South Carolina). “… and really refine my conducting under the tutelage of a great conductor and teacher, Dian Tchobanov” is how one of his students (M. Caine, Director of Music, Florida) says.
In the upcoming season 2008-2009 Dian Tchobanov will have is debut in USA with Forth Collins Symphony (Colorado) and will give a conducting master class at the University of South Carolina (Columbia).
Born in Bulgaria, Dian Tchobanov earned his master´s degree from State Musical Academy (Sofia) in1997 and University of Music (Vienna) in 2001. In 2000 he attended a master class with Sir Colin Davies in Dresden (Germany) and got private lessons from Fabio Luisi (Chief Conductor Vienna Symphony Orchestra).
Mr. Tchobanov has been awarded with Second and the Special award of "Lovro von Matacic" International Conductors Competition Zagreb in 2003 and Special award at the Fourth International Austrian-Hungarian Conductors Competition in 1998.
Beyond his activities as conductor he has also played as pianist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the conductorship of Seiji Ozawa (2003).

Dian Tchobanov has been awarded with:
Second and the Special award of "Lovro von Matacic" International Conductors Competition in Zagreb (2003) Special award at the Fourth International Austrian-Hungarian Conductor Competition (1998)
Second prize (no First prize awarded) at the National Competition of Interpret and Arts Creation (Plovdiv, 1994)
Third prize at "Nikola Stefanov" Academic Competition for Piano Players (Sofia, 1994)
In 1999 Tchobanov won the competition for an Assistant of Ivan Fisher in Budapest. He was semi finalist of Prague Spring International Conductors Competition, Mitropoulos Conductors competition and was awarded with a scholarship by the Janacek Foundation (1999).
